Why you design products for children?
I am interest in create designs for kids that contributes to a healthy development, offering autonomy and adapting the design to the kid´s needs.
What was your inspiration for Franca – your growing bed for children?
The main idea of the project is to redesign the classical crib with its typical bars, in order to came up with a different and innovative concept. This concept stems from two different products, the crib and a mat where the kid can play. The key is to combine both off them to create an original and practical product.
Why is your growing bed especially suited for children as a piece of furniture?
Franca is a crib that accompanies the growth of the child. It works as a classical crib during the first months of his life and then turns into a modern kids bed that can be used until the child requires a standard dimensioned bed.
The main element of the growing bed is a textile piece that plays differents roles depending on the stage of the child´s life. As a crib, the textile piece works as the lateral and back barrier. And when the baby grows up, and he doesn´t needs the barriers anymore, the textile piece becomes a ludic object, while the former crib, adopts a new form; that of a visible low bed.
Are there other products that you produce specifically for children?
At the moment, Franca is my first design for kids.
A few personal questions at the end: What toys did you play with as a child? Did you have a favorite toy?
When I was a child I used to create houses with the furniture of my house. I liked to create my own space and play with my imagination.
If you look into a crystal ball and predict your future as a designer: what children’s product would you like to design next?
I would like to design others elements that contributes to a healthy development, like tables and chairs for children with an autonomy use.
