Tell us about your background. How did you become a designer?

A sense of creativity has emerged in our childhood. The desire to create new things led us to study at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. Here we met for the first time and found a common theme in creating children’s products.

Why you design products for children?

Above all, we have a strong relationship with children. At the same time, through this work, we materialize our childhood dreams. In adulthood, it’s important to stay a bit like a child.

What was your inspiration for Mimozem – your toys of wood serie?

Our MIMOZEM collection is inspired by traveling and discovering new worlds beyond fantasy. We strive to design products in the simplest form of imagination. We continue with the idea of Ladislav Sutnar, a prominent Czech designer who devoted to the creation of toys during the war.

Why are this wooden building blocks especially suited for children as a toy?

Wood is a grateful, beautiful and long-lasting material. Simple folding parts, dice, are the perfect harmless object for the game. It was ancient and we have not found better material yet :-)

Suitable design for kids – what does that mean for you?

Safety, creativity, fantasy. Suitable design for kids can be almost anything. Children are able to play with everything that is new and unknown, and give the items an endless look.

A few personal questions at the end: Do you feel there is a toy that every child should have?

Generally, we think the best toy is a kit. They develop children’s fantasy and spatial imagination.

And subsequently: What toy do you think is a completely superfluous?

You can not talk about a particular type, each child is different. Rather, it is redundant. Parents surround their children with heaps of toys and objects that are poor, and their over-expression of the real world is sometimes tiring. In the past, children had only a few handmade toys, which even come from generation to generation, and their lifetime corresponds to the quality of the design.
