Crater Lake was influenced by the history of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995 that led to inevitable changes. At that tragic time, people of Kobe City came together to rebuild damaged areas of the city and nowadays in our technology driven time this face to face social interaction between people is decimating.

This was the first project to be implemented in this town. We therefore wanted the new building to be in harmony with its surrounding environment and not to disturb its atmosphere. At the same time, we also wanted the rebuilt nursery to be a monument for reconstruction and to have a grand presence, evoking both unity and eternity.
