Meet Quentin de Coster, designer of the Animal table – a play furniture for kids

What was your inspiration for the ANIMAL table?

When I was studying industrial design in Liège some years ago, teachers asked us to create a piece of furniture for kids. In an attempt to identify the formal universe in which children evolve, I asked them to draw tables and dogs. The design of ANIMAL was then created from their drawings.

Why do children need this product ?

Because it is a minimal, playful and made in Europe product. The table is designed by children and for children.

How children respond to this product ?

Very well. The product is currently manufactured by the Belgian company called Dark and sales are doing well.

Do you feel there is a toy that every child should have?

Not particularly. But I can recommend some companies which have nice pieces for kids in their collection: Perludi (AMBER), Royal VKB (PUZZLE TRAY), PCM (POLICOSMOS) etc.

If you look into a crystal ball and predict your future as a designer: what children’s product would you like to design next?

Let’s say a little chair.
